Jazz a la Villette 2010, Paris

PARIS... JE T'AIME... "Jazz a la Villette" Festival

The first fortnight in September brings one of Paris’s best jazz festivals (early Sept).  Spend your last jazzy evenings of the Summer around the Parc de la Villette with legendary artists such as Chick Corea, Chucho Valdes and Gil Scott-Heron.

As every year, the Jazz à la Villette festival will have you wishing summer would last for just a few more days. From 31st August to 12th September, the most innovative creators of the moment, at the frontiers of all genres (improvised music, soul, hip hop...) meet on the various stages around the Parc de la Villette.

At the Point Ephémère, DJ Mehdi invites you to spend a whole night to the sound of his delicate mixes (3rd). At the Grande Halle, don’t miss the two jazz legends Chucho Valdès and Archie Shepp with their Afro-Cuban Project (7th), young trumpet prodigy Ibrahim Maalouf (3rd) and the legendary trio of Chick Corea, Miroslav Vitous and Roy Haynes (2nd).

At the Cabaret Sauvage, go and listen to soul funk singer Alice Russel in an acoustic session (5th) and discover the hip hop swing of pianist Robert Glasper, programmed in a Tribute to Roy Ayers (11th). And to end this festival with an outstanding concert, The Last Poets & David Murray will invite themselves at la Grande Halle de la Villette on Sunday (12th)!

And above all, keep the evening of 8th free for an undoubtedly memorable rendezvous with the poet and forerunner of rap, the one and only Gil Scott-Heron, at the Cité de la Musique. Also take note of a “Jazz à la Villette for kids” workshop in which children can have their first lesson in swing and groove and the cinema cycle at the MK2 Quai de Seine and Quai de Loire where you can see, or see again, major classics of the 7th art with Frank Sinatra (High Society, On the Town, Love and Swing) and even the Aristocats by Walt Disney!
